Kevin & Kaylynn 8.2016

Q1. What have been your greatest successes (physically, mentally or emotionally) since you began? How does your body feel now compared to when you started and WHY?

Kaylynn: Mentally CrossFit has changed the way I think about myself and has given me confidence. My body now feels a lot stronger and I feel that I understand my body more than I ever have.

Kevin: Since I began CrossFit I have obtained some pretty awesome gains. When I started in 2013 I thought 155 back squats were pretty heavy and now I’m at 315! It’ pretty cool to look back and see how far I’ve come since I started. My body feels a lot more functional now than when I started.

Q2. How has your life changed since starting CrossFit training? Has CrossFit transferred over into any other areas of your life?

Kaylynn: Since I started CrossFit training, I realized that my body is capable of doing so much more than it did before. I never played any sports in school, and I never really stuck to any workout regimen so for me to get into CrossFit was a huge change. It’s also become apart of my entire family, because now my mom, uncle, and step-dad have joined CrossFit and that’s all we really talk about at family gatherings.

Kevin: At first CrossFit was my usual one hour of power of physical activity and now that I have graduated from CSU it’s becoming more of a necessity. I love training and working towards personal records. CrossFit has made me more ambitious in other avenues of my life and I’m blessed to have an outlet where I can push myself!

Q3. What are the advantages of CrossFit style training compared to your previous workout styles?

Kaylynn: Well, CrossFit doesn’t really compare to other workout styles because I think it’s pretty unique compared to anything I’ve ever done.

Kevin: The advantage of CrossFit is that there are no disadvantages! Your truly putting your level of fitness to the test and are constantly adapting to new techniques. It’s more rewarding doing some heavy Olympic lifting than preacher curls in a standard gym with mirrors. It’s revolutionizing the fitness world and how we perceive ourselves and what fitness truly is.

Q4. What advice can you give to others?

Kaylynn: Working out with your spouse/partner isn’t as bad as you’d think. In fact, I love it.

Kevin: Nothing prepares you for CrossFit! You don’t need to get “fit” before entering the box. You just have to go for it and have fun. When it comes to gym memberships, there’s nothing like your local box and the community that pushes you to do your best.

Athlete Specific Q. 1) Who is more competitive when it comes to CrossFit? 2) Who normally wins the daily WOD? 3) Snatch or Clean?

1) Kaylynn: Kevin’s definitely more competitive but he can’t catch up so there’s actually no competition for me.

Kevin: When I started CrossFit I was definitely a competitive person, but since Kaylynn has joined and has made so much improvement I have no problem chasing her (;

2) Kaylynn: Kevin wins. Kevin: Kaylynn wins.

3) Both: Snatches forever and always. Nothing beats a good snatch.
