Q1. What have been your greatest successes (physically, mentally or emotionally) since you began? How does your body feel now compared to when you started and WHY?
Wow, this is a tough question. I definitely have a lot of physical successes…I’m stronger and more flexible than I’ve ever been in my adult life. But the biggest success has got to be mentally/emotionally. I’m so much more confident and happy in my everyday life, it’s crazy. I wish I had found CrossFit years ago! I never saw myself as a “strong” person, either physically or mentally, but after starting CrossFit at DNR I’m starting to see myself as strong and it’s amazing. That alone is worth all of the blood, sweat, and tears.
Q2. How has your life changed since starting CrossFit training? Has CrossFit transferred over into any other areas of your life?
CrossFit has leaked into other areas of my life in all kinds of crazy ways. For example, I eat healthier partially so the wods kill me a little less. It’s a lot easier to do some of my other hobbies like tennis and dancing. And, for some reason, I find myself doing random CrossFit things during the day. I even box-jumped a bench in the park the other day!
Q3. What are the advantages of CrossFit style training compared to your previous workout styles?
Admittedly, I haven’t always been an active person. CrossFit is so different from anything I’ve done before. I really enjoy the variability in the program because it’s allowing me to train my muscles in all kinds of new ways that would have never happened without CrossFit. Personally, I’m finding that I really enjoy weightlifting with a cardiovascular component.
Thinking about it though, the best part is the community. They keep me accountable and make every day fun!
Q4. What advice can you give to others?
You will be surprised at what you can do. Come in, push yourself every day and you’ll find that you are capable of so much more than you ever thought. Just make the commitment to do it.
Athlete Specific Q. Would you rather see a real life version of The Walking Dead or Jurassic Park, and does CrossFit make you more prepared for such a scenario?
Hmm… difficult choice. However, I think the possibility of having pet velociraptors pulls it in favor of Jurassic Park. Obviously, the ability to deadlift small dinosaurs will help me exert my dominance and become Queen of the Jurassic.
