Q1. What have been your greatest successes (physically, mentally or emotionally) since you began? How does your body feel now compared to when you started and WHY?
By far, my greatest success has been Fran. I did the workout shortly after I joined DNR in the spring and struggled through the whole thing – lifting only the bar and taking way too long to cycle through it. On Halloween, I shattered my old time and added 20 lbs. to my bar. I was so excited to ring the PR bell! Overall, I can tell I’m stronger, both mentally and physically. I look forward to going to the gym rather than dreading it – and that’s 100% due to the DNR family (special shout out to Marie!) Working out is fun and rewarding again!

Q2. How has your life changed since starting CrossFit training? Has CrossFit transferred over into any other areas of your life?
The biggest change for me has been my sleeping habits. I used to rely on meds to get a good night’s sleep. Now, I don’t and it’s amazing! CrossFit has definitely transferred into other areas of my life as well. I eat better and I have so much more energy throughout the day.

Q3. What are the advantages of CrossFit style training compared to your previous workout styles?
For me, it’s all about the functional muscle movements. I did kickboxing for several years prior to CrossFit, and while I was in good shape, I wasn’t nearly as strong as I am now. I also love that every day is different. There’s nothing worse than a routine.

Q4. What advice can you give to others?
Hang in there! It took a solid 6 months for me to feel like I was making progress. It’s frustrating and hard for us “instant result” people, but nothing worth having comes easy. Work hard, stay dedicated and enjoy your successes, even if they are small.

Athlete Specific Q.
What is worse, tons of burpees or having to wait for Grey’s Anatomy to resume after the mid-season break?
Both are completely soul-crushing! However, I’m starting to embrace the burpees (but don’t tell Marie!) Waiting for a new episode of Grey’s is just unacceptable.
